The Torres Two plus One…Two!
It’s not a typo! You’re reading it correctly. We are no longer the Torres Two plus One, we are now The Torres Two plus TWO!!!!! This little one is not coming from us, we’re not adopting siblings, and this second one isn’t coming from Ethiopia either. Our adoption plan has changed immensely. God has thrown us a giant curve ball. And quite honestly the most amazing curve ball ever! To make a very long and complicated story short, Chris and I will become parents in 8 short weeks! We have been given the amazing opportunity to adopt a newborn from here in New Mexico. Baby Torres is expected to join our family Lord willing on June 23rd.
We certainly didn’t see this coming. God orchestrated this beautiful situation and dropped it right in our laps. About a month ago Chris and I heard of a pregnant woman here in town in a very difficult situation. She knew that she couldn’t provide a good life for her baby but hadn’t spoken to an agency or made a plan yet. We heard about the birth mom through a family member, and our story was shared with her. She learned more about us and our heart for adoption. She had pretty much decided on us before we even knew about her.
Initially we said no, but for reasons we now understand God kept bringing it back up in our minds. He wouldn’t let us forget. And we are so grateful for that now! After a week of prayer we decided that we wanted to do this, we shook on it and have been starting to prepare ever since!
We would rather not disclose the entire story out of respect for the birth mom and this delicate situation. While the shock has worn off we are still anxious. But the excitement definitely out weighs the anxiety. It’s such a short amount of time but we know that the Lord will provide and make it all possible.
The Lord is blessing us immensely. He’s giving us the beautiful blessing of a newborn child now while we wait to bring his or her’s brother or sister home from Ethiopia. Yes we are still pursing our adoption from Ethiopia, it’s just going to take a little longer due to our funds being tied up in this domestic adoption. And to our surprise the domestic adoption isn’t cheap. So the fundraising is definitely continuing!
Please be praying for us as we embark on this crazy/blessed journey! Prayers for peace for our anxious minds, prayers for our grieving birth mom, and prayers that the Lord will provide the funds to make this and our Ethiopian adoption possible. We have a lot to do in a short amount of time. And we hope to spend the next couple months soaking up the last bit of our lives as a twosome.
We want to thank each and every one of you for your emotional, financial and prayerful support. God has truly blessed us so far with an amazingly generous family community. We still have some hurdles to cross with the local adoption, so we again ask for your support. There are two main ways you can help…
1. PRAY – Pray for the birth mom. This time period is increasingly difficult on her, so please pray that God will give her strength to endure. Also please pray for Amanda and I. We are trusting in Gods will with our lives, however we are also aware that there will be additional hurdles to cross with insurance, attorneys, etc. Lastly, Pray for the health of our sweet baby, and for the health of the birth mom.
2. SUPPORT – We have put in around $7,500.00 into the adoption process (Africa and domestic combined), however we are still short around $5,000.00 for this adoption. We are 100% confident that God will provide for this need. If you can help us we would be so incredibly grateful, and if not that is by all means okay, but please either way pray for this. If you are interested in helping out financially, please visit our how you can help page for more ways to help out.
We cannot believe we will soon be three, and then four! God is SO good! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Amanda & Chris
